Brainy History - Facts about Knoxville

Knoxville Catholic High School History - The history of a Catholic high school in Knoxville reaches back as far as the late 1800’s when a formal high school curriculum was introduced at St. Mary’s Parish School on Summit Hill.

Knoxville College - Knoxville College was founded in 1875 as a missionary effort of the United Presbyterian Church of North America in order to promote religious, moral, and educational leadership among freed men and women.

Knoxville East High School - The first students from Park City, Burlington, Holston Hills, and surrounding areas began classes here in the fall of 1951.

Knoxville High School - Knoxville High School was a public high school in Knoxville, Tennessee, that operated from 1910 to 1951, enrolling grades 10 to 12.

Knoxville History Project - The Knoxville History Project (KHP) is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to research and promote the history of Knoxville. Knoxville’s only city-focused historical organization, KHP covers the city’s historic center, but also neighborhoods throughout the county, to the north, south, east, and west.

Knoxville Tennessee History for Kids - There seems to be some kind of story and surprise behind just about every nook and cranny of Knoxville. Tennessee School for the Deaf - Tennessee’s School for the Deaf, created by law in 1844, boasts a remarkably long and stable history of educating the state’s students with hearing disabilities. The school has operated since 1845 in Knoxville, closing only for the Civil War.

University of Tennessee History - Founded in Knoxville in 1794 as Blount College, the institution that would become the University of Tennessee began as a struggling higher education institution with a small student body and faculty.

Zoo Knoxville History - Knoxville’s first zoo began in an unlikely way with a newspaper’s 1923 initiative to start a park for poor children, boosted by a Birthday Fund, collected by children, based on their ages.
